Essential Preparation for Your African Journey
Everything you need to know before you fly: visa requirements, health insurance, vaccinations, and packing essentials.
Trekking the Simien Mountains National Park is a bucket-list adventure. However, at altitudes exceeding 4,000 meters, the weather can shift from intense African sun to freezing nighttime frosts.

Pack light, pack smart, and let us handle the heavy lifting — the mountains will take care of the rest.

You need layers you can peel off. Pack a moisture-wicking Base Layer (Merino wool), a warm fleece Mid-Layer, a high-quality windproof/waterproof Outer Shell, and zip-off trekking trousers.

High-cut, waterproof hiking boots (broken in!), camp shoes for the evening, a -10°C (14°F) sleeping bag, and a 20–30 liter daypack.
SPF 50+ sunblock, polarized sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat are mandatory for the fierce high-altitude UV rays.
Denim Jeans (useless when wet), Rolling Suitcases (bring a soft duffel for the mules), and Drones (strictly regulated in Ethiopia).
When you trek with Africa Tour Guide, we provide the heavy camping equipment, the mules, the expert scouts, and a mountain chef. Just pack your personal essentials!
